If you're Roman Catholic, this is the place to visit for validation of faith. The Feast of Corpus Christi was a momentous celebration.

Any church can meet one’s religious obligations, but St. Mary’s Basilica is very much its own environment. Despite being located in Old Town Alexandria (surrounded by diverse communities), the atmosphere inside felt anything but inclusive. As a brown man, I was acutely aware of the stares and the subtle, uncomfortable gestures, like parishioners clutching their purses as I took my seat. That sense of being observed overshadowed the spiritual experience.
On a practical note, parking can also be frustrating: double parking is common practice, which makes leaving quickly difficult. Arriving early and finding street parking is your best option.
A place of worship should feel spiritually grounding, not socially isolating.

This Basilica has so many special memories for my family. My son was christened here many years ago. It was so wonderful to come back to visit The service was wonderful and the level of the Priests here is amazing. One thing that brought back a funny memory was the parking lot has not changed as people park in every single spot and you must wait for them to leave to be able to get out.

Such a peaceful and beautiful place to visit. The architecture of The Basilica of Saint Mary is stunning—classic, elegant, and rich with history. It’s quiet and serene inside, perfect for reflection or simply taking in the beauty of the space. A hidden gem that offers both spiritual and architectural inspiration.

We visited to light a candle for a loved one. Very nice historic church, with many stain glassed windows, and statues. Worth a stop in.
