I write this review in the hopes it helps others when they are looking for the right hospice care company for their loved one. My experience with Heartland Hospice during my father’s final days was deeply troubling. After my father fell at his memory care facility, he was in significant pain and Heartland was contacted immediately. The hospice nurse arrived after a few hours after the fall. At that time, he recommended a mobile X-ray to rule out a hip fracture, but because it was the weekend we were told it likely would not happen until Monday. My father remained in bed in pain while we waited. More concerning was that he did not have the hospice “comfort pack” of medications that should be readily available to hospice patients. Morphine had to be ordered and did not arrive until later that evening. The following day his condition worsened. He was extremely lethargic, in severe pain, and began vomiting repeatedly. Despite multiple calls to hospice, no nurse came to evaluate him in person that day. Additional medications recommended by the on-call nurse (Ativan and Zofran) were also unavailable and would not arrive until Monday because it was the weekend. After hours of watching my father suffer, I made the decision to discharge him from the care of Heartland and called 911. Paramedics suspected internal bleeding just as I did. He was transported to Froedtert Hospital where he finally received immediate medical attention and finally kept comfortable. My father passed away three days later. Heartland Hospice states their mission to is to provide comfort and compassionate support for patients during life limiting illnesses. Additionally, they state they provide the necessary medications, equipment and supplies to support your hospice diagnosis. None of that was met during my father's greatest time of need. Particularly with providing necessary medications. In short, if you need hospice care, Heartland cannot make you any promises they will keep your loved one comfortable. Especially if your time of need is on the weekends. PS...the entire comfort pack of medications did indeed arrive at my father's facility...on Monday evening, two days after his fall. A little too late for someone who is in hospice care. After this incident, my father's memory care facility is no longer recommending Heartland as a choice for their residents.

Heartland Hospice provides exceptional care, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone—even my own family. Their commitment to compassionate, top-notch care is evident in everything they do. A special shoutout to Nick Uhen, who is truly fantastic at what he does. His dedication, expertise, and kindness make a world of difference for patients and their families. Heartland is incredibly lucky to have him as a Hospice Care Consultant! I sincerely appreciate the entire team for the important work they do. If you’re looking for a hospice provider that genuinely cares, Heartland Hospice is an excellent choice.

I’ve had the pleasure of communicating with Nick and Taylor from heartland, and I can’t speak highly enough about their approach to business. They are incredibly personable and have a natural , genuine way of communicating with other agencies that set them apart. It’s clear that they prioritize building meaningful connections and truly understand their roles. They consistently exceeded expectation which is a rarity in today’s fast paced business world. In an industry where many companies can feel transactional Nick and Taylor handle communication with a touch that can’t be taught. This trait is invaluable as it fosters trust, collaboration and long lasting relationships. Heartland’s approach isn’t about making a sale. They truly care about the people they work with, and it makes all the difference.

My dad was put on hospice after a not so great experience at a nursing home. The nurses, aids, social workers were absolutely a blessing. All of them were so kind, helpful. I appreciated that when I asked them to give it to me real they didn’t beat around the bush. All the nurses were so soft spoken and kind and my dad really enjoyed them. He only had 3 days to get to know them before he passed but when he did it was exactly as they said and so peaceful and couldn’t have asked for a better place. As I never want to go thru this experience again, I would choose Heartland in a heartbeat

I have used Heartland Hospice twice, once several years ago with my mother and now we have my 91 year old mother-in-law on their hospice service. They are absolutely outstanding. I believe they went through some ownership changes over the years but now as part of the Gentiva Hospice family they are incredibly solid. Everyone we have dealt with from the admissions team to the Nurses, CNAs, Social Workers, Pastoral Staff, Administrative Staff have all been kind, caring, highly communicative, efficient in their processes to get my MIL admitted, and willing to answer any and all questions. They are highly responsive and my mother-in-law really likes the caregivers and feels they are taking excellent care of her. I would highly recommend Gentiva/Heartland Hospice!
