It was such a welcoming Cathedral, and so very beautiful with a rich history. Thankful to the deacons who welcomed my group with open arms.

I just popped in to visit the Blessed Sacrament and pray independently, but there happened to be a wedding taking place. I did not personally know or have any association with the couple or any of the guests. It was a full on wedding Mass. So, I stayed for the liturgy. During the wedding portion of the ceremony, the priest, Fr. Isaac, sang a consecration over the couple. It was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen or heard in a wedding. He was accompanied by the organ. It was a song solo that sounded like a hymn but the lyrics were contemporary and sounded almost personal to the couple. I should have recorded it, but I was transfixed. I wish I had recorded it because I doubt I'll ever hear that song again.

I attended the 5:30pm Sunday Mass at the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle and was honestly blown away. I arrived about 40 minutes early and the cathedral was already open, which gave me some quiet time to take in the space. The church is absolutely breathtaking. The mosaics, the architecture, and the atmosphere are truly beautiful. It is one of those places where you immediately feel a sense of awe. Just before Mass started, the cathedral began to fill quickly and it ended up being a full house, which was amazing to see. What especially made my heart happy was how many young people were there. It was really encouraging to see such a vibrant and diverse community gathering together. A truly beautiful cathedral and a wonderful place to attend Mass if you are in Washington, DC. I’m very grateful I had the chance to experience it.

A truly stunning cathedral in the heart of D.C. I attended the Sunday morning Mass on September 8th and was moved by both the service and the incredible surroundings. The mosaics and the soaring dome create an atmosphere of awe that perfectly complements the worship experience." • Atmosphere: Awe-inspiring and grand. • Highlights: Vibrant mosaics, impressive dome, and historical significance as the site of JFK’s funeral mass.

If you're ever in the immediate area of center city D.C. it would be a crime not to pay a brief visit to St. Matthew's. Words fail me. But I'll try my best: It's no secret that The Catholic Church has set the standard for the western religious aesthetic.... without question. And it's a hard act to follow (no offense intended). I've meant to pay the "sanctuary" a visit for quite some time...and yesterday, I did. Immediately, you get a sense of the sacred and the grandeur of the Christian idealism as it seems to emulate a "heaven". Ultimately becoming a "haven".
