You don’t plan to learn what hospice is. It’s not something you research out of curiosity. It arrives with bad news and stays because it has to. My father was admitted to Trustbridge Hospice by the Sea in Boca Raton after a stroke, already in the fight of his life with stage 4 cancer. He spent 18 days there. Eighteen long, strange, sacred days. The place is not what you fear it will be. It’s clean. Quiet. Thoughtfully arranged. His room was large and private, with a spacious bathroom and French doors that opened onto a peaceful central courtyard. Sunlight came in every morning. There was a small refrigerator, a television, extra seating, and daily menus for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Simple comforts. Civilized details. Most importantly, he was comfortable. And then there were the people. From the security staff at the front desk, to the countless volunteers - Sharon and Ari, specifically- who showed up with steady kindness, to Ronda in food service making sure every tray arrived with care. The nurses, Kim and Yvonne, were something else entirely. Almost angelic. They walked into the hardest moments without hesitation. No theatrics. Just skill, patience, and compassion when my father was at his worst. Professionals, yes. But also deeply human. I sat bedside with him every day. I watched. I listened. I began to understand what hospice really is. It is not surrender. It is stewardship. It is making the end less frightening, less painful, more dignified. When the time came for my father to be discharged, to spend his last days at home, there was no scrambling, no confusion. A hospital bed arrived. Tray tables. Boxes of medical supplies. Everything we needed, delivered in preparation, efficiently and without cost. It was handled the same way everything else had been handled there — quietly, competently, with respect for what families are carrying in those moments. I have nothing negative to say about this place, and that feels remarkable to write. In the end, what you want for someone you love is simple: comfort, dignity, and not being alone. He had all three. And for that, I am grateful.

TRUST them to throw your loved one off a BRIDGE. If you need help because you want your family member to recover and heal, this is not the organization for you. The very best these people are capable of is easing a person into the end of their life. My grandmother was discharged from Broward Health with a feeding tube and tons of medication, and the first nurse that trustbridge sent didn’t even know how to operate it. We had to call the nurse’s station at the hospital who then walked us through it over the phone, meanwhile the “nurse” from trustbridge was explaining to us how food normally travels from the INTESTINES and THEN into the STOMACH. Need an urgent urinalysis to confirm/rule out infection?? Trustbridge will kindly refer you to their triage help line, who then must confer with their doctor, who then must coordinate with their discharge team, who will then check the schedule of available nurses, who then will make an appointment to come and see you, and then must call a THIRD PARTY to schedule a time to pick up the urine sample and then send it to the labs! If your loved one needs care in order to survive, please do not work with this organization.

My mother has congestive heart failure and dementia. She suffers from shortness of breath and her former primary doctor didn’t agreed with her having an oxygen tank at home. One night she had a respiratory crisis but refused to go to the hospital, so I called Trustbridge for assistance. At the same day, we received their visit and they provided us with everything my mom needed to feel more comfortable, including oxygen tank and nebulizer. My mom is Brazilian and just speaks Portuguese and for my surprise they sent us a Brazilian nurse to communicate with her. Trustbridge has been doing for our family in less than 1 month more than we ever had in this last 6 months that my mom’s condition declined. Her health is delicate, full of ups and downs and there are no issues that they couldn’t quickly take care for us, even in the holidays. I have a huge gratitude for the Eagle team in Boca Raton, specially for Karine (my mom’s nurse) and Paula Paim (manager) for all their help, love, kindness and attention. Thank you, Eagle Team/ Trustbridge. ✍️A little update: my mother passed on January 24, under the care of Trustbridge. She passed peacefully, sleeping in her own bed at home, surrounded by love, respect, care and dignity. I can’t thank Trustbridge enough for their amount of care for my mom. All my appreciation goes to nurse Karine, manager Paula Paim, Dr. Caraballo, social worker Jodi and all the “crisis” nurses who spent 24 long days in my house to make sure that my mother was comfortable, while slowly passing. God bless you all, Thank you 🙏🏽.
