The elevator has been broken in the Potomac building since December 6. As of April 15, it is STILL not fixed. In an assisted living facility, that means residents are effectively trapped in their apartments for months.
Yes, there is an evacuation chair—but it must be scheduled in advance and is only available during staff working hours. That is not a realistic or safe solution for daily living, let alone emergencies.
Food handling is also deeply concerning—meals are delivered wrapped in plastic, left sitting out for hours, then reheated and served. This is not acceptable in any care setting and raises serious health concerns.
Management made short-term improvements after complaints (better meal presentation, some responsiveness), but the most critical issue remains unresolved with no clear repair timeline.
This community is extremely overpriced for the level of care being delivered, and families deserve transparency before making such an important decision.
At this price point, you’re not paying for care—you’re paying to manage ongoing problems.

The staff that takes care of my mother is kind and really treat her on a holistic manner. They take the time to connect with her and really know her .

The staff at Sunrise Bluemont is top notch! I heartily recommend this facility for respite or long-term care for family or loved ones. When looking for a facility offering respite care, I worked with Synai, the Sales Manager, who later met me for a private tour, explained the meal plans, daily schedule, and activities; she took a personal interest in my Mom and her needs which was very reassuring. My Mother is sharp as a whip mentally, but requires knee and shoulder replacements, making mobility an issue.
The nursing, dietary and environmental services staff members at Sunrise are caring, professional, and helpful, and the receptionists act more like a concierge (both weekend and weekday) always willing to help.
Since her stay began, my Mom looks like she's about 10 years younger, looks forward to doing her hair & makeup, and being with her new friends. She is thoroughly enjoying her time here. Thank you, Synai, and ALL of the Sunrise staff for taking such good care of one of my most important treasures, my family ❤️

I am very grateful to everyone at Sunrise for taking care of my mom. Kathleen French especially has been so patient and kind with my family. I have had SO many questions and Kathleen answers them all. The care is great and so is the food. Thank you to the entire staff. You guys are awesome!

We moved a parent here 6 months ago and have been very happy with the care and the overall facility. This is our first experience with elder care and Sunrise and I would recommend checking out the Bluemont site. There are 3 buildings and rooms are nicely decorated and maintained; rooms have a variety of choices in layouts and sizes (and prices). They make it easy with tours and information to make a decision - and are very aware of it being a stressful time. All levels of care are available. Care coordinators and care managers have all been so responsive and attentive, especially as we have had changing needs. And the Nurses team as well has been great. Maintenance team is quick with any issue and helpful with any needs. Choosing a place for an elderly parent is a very emotional and stressful process - Sunrise Bluemont is a good choice to check out.
