Calvin of Schoen's handled everything flawlessly. We showed up the morning of the funeral with several items of memorabilia that out of town friends brought. Calvin immediately had a table set up and helped arrange it.

I suddenly and unexpectedly lost my dear husband, Keith W. Gilly, on March 30, 2026. His wishes were that he'd be sent to Jacob Schoen and Son Funeral Home, where his parents had their services. They were entrusted to provide funeral services for my beloved husband on April 8, 2026. We had funeral insurance but unfortunately, my husband had a 2 year rider on his policy. This meant that I had to find funding on my own. Fortunately, Keith had many friends who loved him dearly, so finding the amount needed to cover cost was not too hard. The funeral home provided me with deep discounts and I was able to give my husband a dignified and beautiful simple service. Honestly, I was not expecting the level of service that was provided. The funeral home opened one of their small parlor rooms where his loved ones could say a final goodbye. I opted for cremation because it simply was the most logical and affordable option. He was presented so eloquently and well groomed. His casket was made of a deep mahogany and sturdy fiberboard. It was so nice that one would have to really look hard at the material to realize it was not a metal or wooden casket. They provided a beautiful crucifix, which was laid ontop of the casket as a momentum for me to take home. I provided a simple bouquet of lavender and sunflowers, which laid upon his chest. After the service was completed, the funeral director, Mr. Calvin Amato, coordinated with the crematorium. On April 22, 2026, Keith was laid to rest in the most beautiful urn that featured wild horses. Keith loved owning and taking care of these majestic creatures, so the urn was a perfect choice. His final resting place is at St. Patrick #1 Cemetery, New Orleans, La., where he wished to be with his parents, keeping with a promise he made to his father upon his passing a decade prior. A humble and most fitting graveside mass was conducted and included a re-blessing of the family tomb. I can't begin to express how truly compassionate the entire staff is at Jacob Schoen and Son. Their level of professionalism is superb and far exceeds their reputation for excellence. I would recommend this funeral home to friends, family and to anyone seeking the very best New Orleans has to offer in a time of great sorrow. Sincerely, Paula Crain-Gilly

During one of the most difficult seasons of our lives, Mr. Kevin and the entire staff at Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home went above and beyond for our family. Their professionalism, compassion, patience, and attention to detail were truly unmatched. From the very beginning, they treated my husband and our family with dignity, respect, and genuine care. The venue was absolutely phenomenal — beautiful, organized, peaceful, and handled with excellence from start to finish. Every detail of the service and repass reflected love and professionalism, and it gave our family comfort during such a painful time. Thank you, Mr. Kevin, and thank you to the entire staff for helping us celebrate my husband’s life so beautifully. Your kindness and support will never be forgotten. We are forever grateful.

In a moment in my life where I felt lost and alone trying to plan for my mother’s funeral arrangements the staff at Jacob Schoen from the initial phone call to the handling of her cremation arrangements has been nothing short of amazing and really moving. I want to give a sincere and heartfelt thank you especially to Calvin, he has been so attentive and compassionate from the very start and it feels a lot in some ways like he’s an extension of family. I would strongly recommend Jacob Schoen to anyone in the future.

I don’t even know where to begin… this wonderful place was so helpful from start to finish during one of the most difficult times of our lives. I lost my mother in law two weeks ago suddenly, we called every funeral home in a 20 mile radius and they were the only funeral home to offer us help. They financially, emotionally and physically helped me every step of the way. Calvin Amato was our director and him and his entire crew were so incredibly helpful for us. They cremated my mother in law, and offered us the chapel to rent to hold her services, helped us set up, pick up host her services, recommended a pastor for us TOTALLY last minute, created our slideshow of pictures to play, held our hand with paperwork, and helped us with the death certificates as well. Most importantly they worked with us financially when it was a real blessing for us as it was so sudden and unexpected for us. Thank you to Calvin and the entire crew and Jacob schoen and son funeral home for everything yall did for us. I’m surely leaving things out that they helped me with but I can never thank them enough for being there for us in such a time of need. Thank yall so much!
