Miriam's Kitchen

A great organisation that cares. One that helped me see America in a different light. As someone who has had the privilege of beginning their volunteering journey some 13 years ago and blessed with opportunities along the way to lead programmes, I believe the hallmarks of any decent programme include (1) being client-first and never volunteer-first; (2) conducting a well thought-out orientation where volunteers learn about how the programme came about, its ethos, the guidelines the organisation puts in place to protect its clients; (3) having strict rules and expectations of its volunteers so as to protect clients; and (4) understanding the power of words — not referring to humans as, say, beneficiaries but as guests or clients. Miriam's ticked all the boxes for me. I particularly like how volunteer manager Martha Wolf highlighted the power of making sure the homeless have a choice, even if it's something as small as whether you want cranberry juice or orange. Learnt a lot from the volunteer orientation. I love the 6am to 8.30am breakfast session & I am grateful for the privilege of getting to start my day bright and early on such a happy note & getting to chat with people ^_^ Thank you for the opportunities & I hope one day we do end the plague of chronic homelessness because no one is ever less deserving than another of safety, shelter, dignity and love.

If you need help with paperwork for insurance, housing, food stamps and so on ,those good people at Miriam's Kitchen are your guys... Professional stuff and humanely understand your burdens and needs...!

Soon to go their again. When you need help and services please contact them . They are really their to help and you can get a hot meal Monday thru- Friday let them tell you guys the time, I forgot. Thank God fir Miriam's Kitchen. They also assist with your resume and will at times have job listing posted. When you gather you can ask for a appointment to meet with a social worker and they will give you a appointment. As I statedcthey help with many resources. Be bless.

I'm Blown Away by the good at this place is doing. Homeless fighting for human rights on DC streets for years, away these last 2 years, and back seeing the population in this place, people that have grown so much. It is quite extraordinary. Thank you for your work. Tho Amy and one other need to remember we clients are equal, not lesser, Souls, worthy of being treated with the same respect that they would show their boss's boss's boss, as the other staff do..

I have been volunteering at Miriam's Kitchen for the last 7 years as Sous Chef and Dining Room Captain and am committed and devoted to their mission and ministry of ending homelessness in the DMV and also feeding the homeless and hungry. I will be volunteering here forever. Also of note: all the food serves to the homeless guests of Miriam's Kitchen are made from scratch from ingredients provided locally by farmers, local markets and grocery stores, and so forth. Even the juice served is generally fresh. It's pretty much a completely foodie experience each and every time.
