I am writing this review to share serious, documented concerns regarding the care standards, resident welfare, and management practices at this facility. Resident Care & Environment:During my time interacting with this facility, I observed that the environment felt unwelcoming and inattentive. Residents appeared noticeably more sedated compared to other facilities I toured. Furthermore, walks outside for memory care residents is insufficient, occurring only once a week. The meal choices heavily lack dietary diversity or fresh, healthy options—consisting almost entirely of heavy meats, potatoes, wheat, and dairy with very few plants. Health & Sanitation Issues:I observed a critical breakdown in basic sanitation, specifically regarding the failure to regularly clean and sanitize the shared showers between uses by different residents. Legal & Rights Violations:Management has demonstrated a disregard for resident rights and legal boundaries. The facility ignored Utah state law protecting a resident's right to association. Additionally, management operated under the authority of a temporary guardianship as if it were a permanent one, despite a total lack of permanent paperwork. Safety & Animal Incidents:I brought my trained service dog to the facility on a leash. While there, my service dog was aggressively bitten by the director's unattended dog. The director later admitted to me that this dog is routinely allowed to roam free on the memory care ward. This raises severe safety and welfare concerns, particularly since multiple memory care residents are uncomfortable with dogs or unable to protect themselves from an loose animal.Families looking for a safe, compliant, and attentive home for their loved ones should look closely at these operational practices before choosing this facility. Note on Review Integrity: Consumers should be aware that the 5-star rating of this facility is artificially inflated. Both the Executive Director, Rodney Washburn, and the Registered Nurse (RN), Brittanee Plasencia, have posted 5-star reviews for their own workplace, which directly violates platform conflict-of-interest policies.

As a senior living advisor who helps families navigate care options across the Salt Lake City area, I’ve had the opportunity to visit and work with many communities. Capitol Hill Assisted Living consistently stands out. The team truly cares about the residents they serve, and it shows in the culture of the community. The staff are warm, attentive, and deeply committed to providing excellent care while helping residents feel at home. For families looking for assisted living in Salt Lake City, Capitol Hill is a wonderful option with a compassionate team and a welcoming environment.

I love this place. Downtown is awesome and its very connected with the surrounding community. Food is awesome and have eaten here many times. The staff is friendly, and they actually smile and say hello to you.

My 90 y/o mom spent the last 4 months of her life in the memory care unit at Capitol Hill passing away unexpectedly from natural causes on Christmas Eve. Our experience there was exceptional. They took such good care of her physical and medical needs, communicated really well with us, and offered so many fun activities that we wished she could have been there many more years. A special thank you to all the direct care staff as well as Rodney, Roxy, Haley and especially Brittanee ❤️
