June 2026. Another surprise along the trail to Jefferson. A very isolated and serene spot I assume gets very few visitors. As I learned , we owe Mason credit for some of the key wording of our Declaration of Independence.

Off the beaten path but worth it. Considered a forgotten founder, this memorial is a touching tribute to George Mason. We always wonder what he is staring at and what he is thinking about. Next time you visit, sit down with George and just relax and take it in.

This is a really over looked DC memorial for a really overlooked Founding Father who had a profound importance on the creation of the Bill of Rights. Considering how close it is to the very popular Jefferson memorial, it is a quite place to sit and relax with a beautiful fountain as well as a statue to the man himself.

The George Mason Memorial is a delightfully charming and peaceful hidden gem tucked away just a short walk from the Thomas Jefferson Memorial. Located within a beautifully landscaped historic garden along the Tidal Basin, this monument breaks away from traditional, imposing styles to present a much more approachable tribute to the author of the Virginia Declaration of Rights. The memorial features a bronze, life sized statue of a relaxed George Mason sitting casually on a stone bench, complete with his hat and book resting right beside him. Visitors are welcome to sit on the bench directly next to the statue, making it a wonderful, interactive spot for a quiet rest or a unique photo under the shade of a spectacular 19th century weeping cherry tree.

The George Mason Memorial commemorates George Mason, a founding father, and author of the Virginia Declaration of Rights. The memorial features a reflecting pool, surrounded by flower beds, and benches for seating. A bronze statue of George Mason, and some of his inscribed writings are located under the trellis on the west end of the memorial.
