Empty Sky Memorial at Liberty State Park in Jersey City is a powerful and deeply moving tribute to the 749 New Jersey residents who lost their lives in the September 11 attacks. The memorial consists of two long stainless steel walls that form a pathway leading directly toward the location where the World Trade Center towers once stood across the Hudson River. As you walk between the walls, you will see the names of the victims engraved into the metal panels. The design creates a quiet and reflective atmosphere, allowing visitors to pause and remember the lives that were lost. The alignment of the memorial toward the Manhattan skyline makes the experience even more emotional and meaningful. The surrounding area is peaceful and open, with clear views of Lower Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty nearby. Many visitors spend time walking slowly through the memorial and reflecting on the significance of the site. Parking is convenient since Liberty State Park has dedicated parking lots nearby. The memorial is free to visit and usually much less crowded than memorial sites in Manhattan, which allows for a more quiet and personal experience. A helpful tip is to visit during sunset or early evening. The view of the Manhattan skyline from the memorial becomes especially beautiful as the city lights begin to appear across the river. Overall Empty Sky Memorial is a meaningful place that offers both remembrance and one of the most striking views of Lower Manhattan.

I don't know how to rate a memorial but I prefer this one over the actual site across the river. They have a McDonald's-style kiosk on the westside where you can type in the name of a particular decedent (they're not in alphabetical ord e r on the walls, at least I don't think they are). The view of the city between the two pillars is breathtaking, least I I think it is. Definitely photogenic.

A nice place in NJ, not that crowded, we were in December around 7PM and nobody was there. You can get a wonderful view to Manhattan skyline and the memorial is build with a view where you could saw the Twins Towers years ago. It is not a popular place but I definitely recommend to go and check it out.

As a retired firefighter, visiting the Empty Sky Memorial was a powerful experience. Walking up, you first take in the history around you, the train, the skyline and then the memorial comes into view. Absolutely breathtaking. It brought me right back to where I was on that September 11th morning, and reminded me of how life changed forever after the attacks. This memorial honors the victims and the heroes we lost in such a beautiful, moving way. Don’t skip this one. Parking was simple with a smartphone, and as a bonus, I was able to get a ticket to see Lady Liberty up close.

I went last year on 9/11/ 2024 and they had organized parking. It was beautiful, they had a very lovely ceremony and it was definitely something to witness being there. I got there kind of early around 4-5pm and waited and walked around the Liberty Park area until it got to dusk where they started to host the ceremony and the memorial lights in NYC started to turn on.
