The Katyn Memorial in Jersey City is one of those places that stops you in your tracks — powerful, moving, and beautifully positioned with one of the most breathtaking views of the New York City skyline you will find anywhere in New Jersey. The statue itself is striking and commanding. A sobering and important tribute that carries real historical weight. Taking a moment to stand in front of it and understand what it represents makes the visit meaningful beyond just sightseeing. This is history and art combined in a way that leaves an impression. But the setting takes it to another level entirely. The direct waterfront view of the Manhattan skyline from this spot is absolutely stunning — the kind of view that makes you reach for your camera immediately. Whether you visit during the day or at sunset the backdrop of New York City skyscrapers across the Hudson River is picture perfect every single time. If you’re in Jersey City this is a must visit — whether you’re coming for the history, the art, or simply the view. The Katyn Memorial deserves far more attention than it gets and is easily one of the most underrated spots on the Jersey City waterfront. A powerful memorial with an unforgettable view. Highly recommend.

Created by Polish-American sculptor Andrzej Pitynski, the 34-foot-tall bronze statue commemorates the 1940 Katyn massacre, in which Soviet secret police executed thousands of Polish officers.Design Details: The statue depicts a soldier bound, gagged, and impaled through the back by a bayoneted rifle. The granite base contains soil from the Katyn forest.Location: The memorial is located at Exchange Place along the Hudson River waterfront, offering direct views of the Lower Manhattan skyline.Controversy: In 2018, plans by Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop to relocate the monument led to significant controversy and intense protest from the local Polish-American community, ultimately resulting in the statue staying in its original

Katyn Memorial It honors the victims of the Katyn massacre and serves as an important reminder of Polish history and identity. Small little plaza with a statue of Katyn. There are a couple of coffee shops, Starbucks included, in the square and some chairs. Many times there are also some kebab food trucks. The view of the city and the freedom tower from there can’t be beat.

A nicely executed monument in memory of thousands of Polish victims of Stalin's crime. Great location, very popular among locals and tourists. This would help keep the memories of these crimes alive.
