The Central Union Mission picked up a white guy who plays the drums. The white guy is a resident of the mission and can play the drums so well that they need to hire him as a paid staff member with Central Union Mission 65 Massachusets Ave NW District Of Columbia. Good job...

Idk. I just wish that Zac Efron would’ve shown up ya know? Would’ve been cool. But awkward at the same time. He would have stole my wife. Idk how to feel about that. But the guy is so handsome and funny. I can’t help but like the guy you know? Idk. It’s the only complaint I truly had about this place

As a white guy this was the only shelter I felt safe at (I visited several). Basically I was just looking to get cleaned up and be on my way (bring about $3.00 in quarters if you want to do laundry).
All of the staff and residents are friendly (they may might notice you and that's a good thing if you're looking to lay low) .
Their rules will require you to sit there for a couple hours doing nothing. This facility is designed for people who are trying to make their lives better, not people who know exactly what they want and are trying to get where they are.
The food is also impressively good. I don't know why a shelter is giving me catfish. Breakfast was oatmeal but whatever. Can't comment on the rest, but I was an impressively free meal.
As a white guy, I felt this was the best place I can spend a night, it's just not for me. They even tell you that if anyone says anything weird to you you're supposed to report it immediately.
It's just not for me because I don't have drug or alcohol problems, and I don't need therapy, and so on and so forth.
My wife just died and my son was kidnapped. I'm just here once and a while, I'm not even from DC. It's a great place tho
Also, the meals are impressive for being free. Apparently this is catfish. Never expected fried catfish for free.
The breakfast was just to feed the masses. Oatmeal with a couple raisins and they had the courtesy to provide like 5 strawberries

Stayed here before. Some of the chaplains are cool. The food "decent" but honestly I was thinking about going back to prison. Less arbitrary rules and more freedom the Union Mission

I was homeless in Washington, D.C. between May 17, 2023 and October 4, 2023. This was the only homeless shelter I could find or I knew of in the +1 (202) area code. Several occasions they assisted me with lunch or dinner. One time I attempted to become a resident of the shelter. IMO I thought the shelter was changing management because I was trying to find shelter.
