Pershing Park

Truly, an understated memorial Sure it’s not as big or out in the open as the World War II memorial, but for everyone who gets a chance, please visit this somber memorial of those who served in the Great War The main sculpture called a soldier’s journey shows the heroism, sacrifice and in the end, the tragedy of the second world war to come Sure, we only fought in it for a year and it doesn’t get nearly as much attention, WWI is just as deserving of honor and respect.

Installed in 1981, this memorial is dedicated to General John J. Pershing an American hero from World War 1. You will also find The Bex Eagle at one end of the park. The park is fairly close to The White House.

WWI memorial that has been expanded over the years to grow from the Marshall Pershing statue, American Expeditionary Force, to all Americans supporting WWI, to a pool & Peace Fountain. Its nice to see all the additions but it doesn't have a large central theme that architecturally ties it all together (like the larger monuments). It's all a bunch of small additions cobbled together.

The National World War I Memorial is located here. On September 14, 2024, they unveiled a 58 foot long sculpture weighing 25 tons. It depicts a soldier's story from leaving home thru fighting and ending with homecoming. It is not located on the National Mall. Definitely worth seeing when you are in the area.

There is some WWl exhibits and statues here. Great place for photos. And a nice place to sit and people watch. It's a lot of walking in D.C. It was safe here, tons of of law enforcement all around. There was a few homeless people in there. Be aware
