Weeping Angel In The Chapman H Hyams Memorial

The Statue of the Weeping Angel can be difficult to find. If you are at the front of the cemetery, and see the large, tall chapel-looking building, and the big hill with a statue of a man on a horse, you are in the right place! Facing the hill with the statue, look to your left, about 100 feet away will be a mausoleum with pillars. That's where the Weeping Statue is. The name on the outside of the mausoleum is "Chapman Hyams" The Angel is back-lit by a beautiful blue stained glass window. You can't go inside the actual mausoleum, but the gates have openings large enough to get a decent picture. The rest of the cemetery is still a neat experience overall. We didn't go looking for any of the other notable people interred here, but just enjoying walking around leisurely admiring the stone and marble work.

Stopped here to specifically see this beautiful weeping angel and we really were in for so many beautiful and serene sights. Grounds kept very well. Definitely stop here at least once if you are in town. You won’t be disappointed.

Beautifully and meticulously maintained final resting places for loved ones. Absolutely gorgeous sculptures outside of and stained glass in some of the mausoleums. Peaceful and incredibly breathtaking.

Visited Metarie Cemetery by taxi just to find the weeping angel but walking around discovered many other beautiful angel statues! I used the walking feature on Google maps and found the weeping angel! Gates to tomb are locked but able to take pictures! I wanted to see this beautiful statue for a long time! So worth it on a very hot day!!

Visiting NOLA cemetaries should be on every travellers list. They are filled with history, and beautiful places to pay respect to those who have passed. In most of the cemetaries I have been to, there are well kept sections and older, less well kept sections. Both are fascinating. The weeping angel is a statue carved by a famous craftsman. I don't really know who he was or where he is from, but you have Google for that. I was able to snap a good picture of the statue. Worth seeing if you can find the correct tomb. I am sure you can Google that too.
