Our daughter was diagnosed with aplastic anemia in April of 2023. She had a bone marrow transplant on July 25, 2023. Her older sister was the donor. Our family was at the Ronald McDonald House from July of 2023 until about March of 2024. My wife and youngest were there full time, and I had to keep my oldest about an hour away so she could attend school. The Ronald McDonald House is an amazing charity for families without the resources to carry large medical bills and a second rental payment at the same time. That was us. Our daughter got to know and love everyone that worked there. My wife as well. I felt comfortable with them in a place like the Ronald McDonald House being over an hour away. Everyone was always friendly and the location is extremely convenient. I would recommend them to anyone.

The kindest caring people at a fragile and emotional time helped to make the process so easy and calming. Danielle whom worked at the desk when there was an angel sent by God!

I can't stress enough the positive impact my months-long stay at RMH in Chapel Hill has had on me. They provided a compassionate space for my family and I during a time of extreme duress. My teenage daughter was diagnosed with a spinal tumor in February of 2025, a devastating discovery that explained the disabling symptoms that disrupted the past year of her life. She spent several weeks at Duke hospital, during which time my spouse and I spent thousands of dollars on travel from Asheville, and on daily food and lodging. We were not informed of the availability of RMH (who also has a location in Durham) until she was transferred to UNC Chapel Hill's Neuroscience unit. What an incredible difference this charitable organization makes in the lives of distressed families. RMH provides FREE comfortable lodging just 5 minutes from Chapel Hill hospital, and provides hourly shuttle service to the main campus. They include three delicious meals a day, laundry services, office spaces, fully-furnished and well-stocked kitchens, and a beautiful outdoor serenity space with gardens, playgrounds, walking trails, and picnic tables. This botanical retreat was a much-needed, stress-relieving escape from daily hospital visits. There's a game room, a library, piano, and several kids play spaces stocked with toys and games for all ages. They even offer new toys to every hospitalized child and their siblings. My toddler absolutely loved his stay here, and with so much entertainment on-site, he stayed busy while I navigated his sister's medical care. What made the most difference during our stay here, was the daily interactions with the families who were also struggling. The camaraderie you build with others is not only cathartic, but the level of empathy and understanding you gain while engaging with others in similar situations leaves an indelible mark. Everyone there has a story to share, and just having someone to listen can make all the difference. The compassionate care we received from the amazing staff and volunteers at RMH helped ease an unimaginable burden, and I implore every family traveling to the Durham/Chapel Hill area for their child's hospitalization to embrace what this safe space offers.

This was our home for 6 weeks and I was so happy this place existed. It gave us hope, peace and a feeling that you’re not alone. We met others going through similar struggles and it becomes therapeutic to talk to others. The garden is calming to walk through and for an outside person like myself, it was an area to reflect in. There’s also a nature trail near by that was very helpful in allowing myself to cope with life. The staff was amazing and I couldn’t be more thankful. I will remember our stay for the rest of our lives. HOPE lives here. ❤️🙏🏻
