There are and have been great to us and her. It was very hard to find somewhere that she would love and not feel some type of way about the staff. The staff at kanawha place is awesome. I cant just pick one bc it would not be fair to the others but they all are amazing. They have giving mommie so much love and comfort words cant even explain.

We placed my blind aunt here based on the reviews we found online. We had no referral or firsthand knowledge and had to rely on what we saw online.
At first, my aunt was loving the move. She was blind and needed assistance navigating the facility. She had someone to take her to activities and she was able to participate in exercise class which she loved, and they had other classes that my aunt enjoyed. Then the aide (activities director?) quit, the activities stopped, as no one was available to take her and stay with her to assist. We noticed her getting more and more depressed and angry about staying in her room all day. When questioning staff about her being assigned a new aid, we were told they were hiring for that position, but this went on for months until my aunts death.
My aunt needed paperwork for an insurance issue so I called the business office for a straight week trying to get someone to complete the paperwork. I gave up after a week and called their corporate office. Problem solved at that point. Got the paperwork and was able to complete the insurance issue.
Then when my aunt passed away (on December 18th,) we began receiving erroneous bills for her stay. We had paid a month in advance but according to them they got to keep all that money with the exception of the prepaid medical care, which amounted to almost $700. (They were also trying to bill for the month after my aunt’s death. I had them fix that). According to the Director during a conversation with her, that refund (which didn’t happen should have went out within 30 days according to THEIR policy). Once a week there after, I began calling about the refund. Where are we with it. No refund received. Heard lots of excuses. Lot of blaming the business office. Heard lots of different reasons for the exact cause of the refund too. Depended on who I spoke with. Called their corporate office office on Wednesday and was told by the Director of the center they were working on cutting the check as we were speaking. It just needed signing. However, in yesterday’s mail (more than three months later) my mom got a check for approximately $700. This was the anticipated refund we have been awaiting.
So what exactly is the truth? I called and left a message yesterday on the Directors cell and work phone inquiring if this check was valid or a replacement. Heard crickets, so today I called and tried to speak with the Director and Business Office and neither one was wiling to take my call. So I hung up, called back and got the person who was fielding calls. Told her our patience ended as of 9 am this morning. Please let your Director know that if I do not get a return call by today by end of business, I am contacting a lawyer. Ten minutes and Crystal was on the phone telling me that check was a valid check. This has been an aggravating three ring circus disguised as an assisted living center. I think staff from the top down is in need of serious retraining. Or, maybe a new career path.

My mother received constant loving and professional care for the 10 years she lived at Kanawha Place following a stroke that left her partially paralyzed. The continuity of staff and the accessibility of managers contributed to a team feeling directed at the best care for my mother. Our family is very grateful for Kanawha Place and its staff. Over the years the rates increased to a point beyond her budget, but the staff and managers prepared a plan for her to stay until she died.

My mom is at Kanawha Place. She has made friends there and always seems happy when I go visit her. She loves the food there and they always ask me if I’d like a meal too if I’m visiting when its meal time. All the staff is very nice to both her and to me. Anything I need for Mom, the staff gets it. The place is clean, cheery, and feels very homey. I was extremely lucky to find this assisted living place for my mother. They care for her needs in ways that I could not. They have nurse practitioners on staff and any medical problems are handled quickly and efficiently. Plus, Mom wears a call button in case she needs immediate help day or night. I am allowed to visit her any time I want, day or night. Kanawha Place is a God send to me.
