Habitat for Humanity NOLA is another landlord collecting rent. The have increased their yearly rental collections over 600%+ in the last 10 years. They collect over $600,000 in rent every year and around $15,000 in late fees. Their director makes a comfy 6 figure salary and makes about 3x what the average New Orleans resident does. They spent over $1,400,000 a year on “fundraising and management” expenses. This is all in their tax filings if you just google “Habitat for Humanity New Orleans tax filings”. The rentals they build are funded by grants. They’ll tell you these are “affordable housing” rentals. But in reality, they charge lower rents to lower income people for a some years for that grant money, and it appears they can then sell them to anyone after that. Probably another landlord who charges whatever (not great). That’s so toxic for people who actually plan to live here longer than 5 years and want neighbors to be able to affordably OWN their homes. People wonder why houses cost so much? Maybe it’s because landlords own 60% of your neighborhood and will forever be collecting rent checks off residents. They don’t care if your neighborhood doesn’t want another rental property. They don’t care if they get in the way of busted pipes or roads getting fixed. They are building a duplex next door to me with NO PARKING. Our block will not have enough parking for it. The director lied to me and said they “had neighborhood support” but no one I’ve talked to knew about this. Me and the other neighbors offered to buy it and turn it into a community garden. Their director said no. I asked if they could build something for a homeowner, not a rental for them to collect checks off of. Their director said no. I asked if they could just wait until the busted pipes and roads on our block got fixed. Their director said no. It’s no secret my neighborhood has rising property values. Are they taking advantage of that reality with a rental they may just sell in some years when prices get higher? Idk but it feels like they are. If they were, it’s probably so they can keep paying their director 6 figures and spending millions dollar on “fundraising and management” expenses.

Patsy doesn't speak good English making it hard to understand her on top of all that she has bad understanding and comprehension skills. She asked me the same thing 5 times and I answered her 5 times. So I nicely ask that she has someone else call me because of the communication barrier. Patsy proceeded to argue with me! Clark, Patsy and the receptionist was very unprofessional, condescending, argumentative, with poor communication, and I am very offended. I ask the receptionist to send me to the manager, however the receptionist ask me what the problem was and when I told her she began to argue helping up for Patsy. I didn't say anything offensive about Patsy I just let her know it is hard to understand her because of her accent. When she sent me to Clark who is patsy supervisor I was calmly telling her the problem and Clark response was "what do you want me to do". Followed by Clark hanging up in my face. I called back and was hung up on again. Finally I called and left my contact information with the receptionist to give to Clark supervisor. The receptionist continue to argue before she took my information. This is supposed to be a non-profit about charitable works. I am disappointed in there lack of professionalism.
