Update: It is with a sad heart that I share my brother passed away last week. During those final hours the compassion, love, understanding and caring from each staff member will never be forgotten. You are all truly an amazing group of people and Angels to our family. With Respect and Gratitude The Family of Joseph Weatherford. My oldest brother is currently a patient in the Hospice house in Columbus. I am extremely blessed and happy that he is being taken care of by such wonderful people. They’re always very welcoming and willing to give updates if I call even in the middle of the night just to check on him. Today we did his VETERAN pinning Ceremony. Senior Chief Peavy did a wonderful job acknowledging my brother‘s military career. It was such a special honor.❤️ To all the wonderful nurses and staff. It takes a very strong person to do what you do. I appreciate each and every one of you and I’ve gotten to know a few of you. Thank you all For what you do To make our loved ones and us as a family comfortable during this difficult time.

I have always had good experience with Colombus Hospice. But recently a friend of 36 yrs dying of Ca did not want to burden her family or friends to care for her in her last days. After 3 weeks in hospital they reached out to Hospice. She had some questions . Will I have to start the medications right away. Answer was no only if u need them. Can I get some fresh air, have a good meal on the porch and spend a couple of days with my family as she had not seen her sister or her eldest son in Texas, and wanted to spend some time with them. She was told "absolutely" by the Hospice rep. Upon arrival at midnight she was medicated. The next day I called her son to say I had taken time off to be with her. We discussed what her wishes were. And he agreed for me to let them know to hold off meds unlesd she asked. When I arrived I spoke with the nurse about her being medicated. We could not wake her she kept whispering she wanted to wake up. She was already so groggy she couldn't hold her eyes open. I told the nurse not to medicate her again till her son was called. We wanted to talk to her. She again medicated her when my friend had just started to come around. I asked why she had done it and had her son been called. She told me I was just a friend and it was her call. Then went back in 1 hr later and medicated her again. I stayed with her for 48 hrs there was no need to stop the process at this point. No other nurses medicated her like that. She had not been on a lot of opiates due to a pain receptor block she had done at her diagnosis. She never got to eat her meal, talk with her family. Her oldest son that lived out of town didnt get to say his goodbyes. It takes 1 bad apple to change your life forever. And this nurse did. All of the others were awesome. But I would not leave there side, cause even being very clear doesn't matter and I was told the nurse is the one that makes the decisions. Now I live with convincing her to go here and not getting her, her last wishes. I know she was very sick and is not suffering anymore yet still in the back of my mindI am so sad....

Columbus Hospice was an incredible source of support during my wife’s final days. Debbie, our nurse, was truly exceptional. She was compassionate, attentive, and deeply caring, but every staff member we interacted with showed the same kindness and professionalism. I had never researched hospice care before and didn’t have a preference when the time came, so the referring doctor chose Columbus Hospice for us. Looking back, I’m very grateful that we were connected with them. During an incredibly difficult time, their compassion, dignity, and support meant more to our family than I can put into words.

I love volunteering at Columbus Hospice. My precious Daddy passed away 11 years ago. Hospice was so wonderful during his illness and after he passed away. This is my way of giving back to other families going though hard times. I love making memory bears for families.
