River's Edge by Barclay House

Edited 5/22: Our previous manager is no longer with River's Edge. We have new management and they began making improvements immediately! We are seeing progress every day. Our new management is compassionate and understanding about the needs of senior folks. Our little community is looking and feeling like home. ```````````````` Edited 3/14: Our entire building was without hot water beginning 3/6. Yesterday, after EIGHT DAYS, our hot water was restored. ---- Worth noting: The five star reviews from Mary Dampier and Jackie Estes - those women were employees, not residents. The bus that residents rely on for their transportation is frequently out of order -- most recently out of order for more than three weeks. During that time, instead of renting a van with a wheelchair ramp, management rented just a small minivan. Residents had to struggle in and out of this very uncomfortable van and the transport driver had to lift wheelchairs and scooters in/out. This hardship on employee and residents was easily avoidable had management rented the proper equipment. When I moved in, June '25, every room in our building was sprayed monthly, and we didn't have bugs. We got a new manager in January '25. Now you have to ask for your room to be sprayed, and they only spray those rooms. The roaches just run from one untreated room to another. What's good about River's Edge? Our transport driver is top notch! Very hard-working and caring. The residents are wonderful! Very friendly and welcoming. Our employees are fantastic, they work hard, they're friendly and helpful. Management is another matter. Some examples: *I lost my keys -- it took three requests and eight days to get a replacement set. *My neighbor's mailbox lock was broken - her bank statements and purchases were not secure. After a month and a half of begging for it to be fixed and getting no help, I got a screwdriver and fixed it for her myself. *The only outlet in my neighbor's kitchen was faulty and killed two microwaves. It took NINE MONTHS to get anyone to take that seriously enough to look into it. Sure enough, it was wired wrong. This is going on at the same time our fire alarm system was broken. *Our laundry room only has two dryers - both of them were down for repair for more than a month. Only has two washers - one of them was down for repair for more than a month. I have 100% confidence in our maintenance team, they're hard working men who care, and they do an excellent job. I believe they're doing everything possible, but they're understaffed and can only do what leadership allows. Edited 9/23/25: We just had ANOTHER false fire alarm, this one two weeks after management's responses below. Edited 9/24/25: And this morning, another false fire alarm. Edited 10/6/25: Two more false fire alarms today. Edited 10/7/25: Two more today. Edited 10/9/25: Two more today. Edited 12/8: Just when you think it's all resolved and everything is good, ANOTHER FALSE ALARM. Edited 12/12: One at 1:20 a.m., one again at 4 a.m. Another at noon. Edited 12/12 at 2:30: And another one.

I visited River’s Edge at Barclay House this past week. The lovely staff and welcoming residents made me feel right at home, and I can’t wait to visit there again! Tim Akins Musician 🎹

As a musician I entertain regularly at Rivers Edge and it is one of my favorite places to perform. Not only are the residents a delight but the staff seems to genuinely care about the residents. After one of my shows I will often hang around for an extra 30 minutes or more just chatting with the residents. There is truly a sense of family and community.

Visited my mom last week; management changes every few months, there is always construction, and there are pests galore. Roaches, snakes, my mom even saw a rat in the back yard. Programming is poor as is the quality of food. Would not recommend.

I give River’s Edge a five star rating. The residents are very friendly. The staff were very welcoming. I was impressed with the one bedroom apartment, the size was good, the view was lovely.
