Yani is truly the best attorney! When our father died, my family and I didn't know what to do with regard to wills, trusts, or the entire probate process. We knew it would take time but of course we're impatient to close it all out, but we're so happy with The Schoonover Law Firm, P.A.'s services. Yani explained each part of the probate process as it happened, to ease my impatience. For example, Yani mentioned that creditors must be notified when a person passes and they have a waiting period to request payment for debts. Of course that worried me because that meant it would take longer to be completed. So when Yani requested documents from us, I made sure to have all the necessary docs ready for her. She filed them quickly and we realized I had forgotten one. Yani was so patient with my inexperience and completed it once again. I would message her regarding the status of many of the documents, and it truly shows how patient she is because she was kind and responded promptly. I cannot imagine having to navigate the probate process without an attorney, and Yani really is the best at this. Yanitza is extremely knowledgeable and personable. She clearly knows probate law well, communicates with a warm and professional tone, and is someone you can feel comfortable trusting with sensitive matters. That said, our experience has been more disappointing overall. The main challenges have been timeliness, consistency, and proactive communication. I tend to be hands-off when hiring professionals, so I rely on them to be self-driving. Too often we found ourselves needing to initiate check-ins, and when updates did come, they were sometimes delayed due to personal circumstances like being out of the country. While life events happen, the frequency of these interruptions left us without the steadiness and follow-through we expected in a process as important as probate. We were originally told our relatively small estate could be resolved fairly quickly (though not under six months). We understand probate often takes longer, but we’ve now been in this process for well over a year and a half. During that time, we’ve had to continue carrying property and mortgage costs without a clear sense of progress or timelines, which has been stressful. In addition, there were moments where information that could have helped us plan ahead wasn’t provided until later — a more proactive approach would have made a big difference. We’ve given feedback along the way, and while Yanitza made some adjustments, the changes didn’t fully address these core issues. In short: she is smart, skilled, and genuinely pleasant to work with, but in our case, the reliability and consistency we were hoping for as probate clients have not been fully met.
