Amedisys Hospice Care

Amedisys Garner took care of my mom the best way possible. The nurse Kirk was exceptional and I hope Amedisys has at least 20 of him. The aide Nicole is also a very good addition to the hospice team and took excellent care of my mom. Kirk really helped me through this difficult time and gave me the comfort I needed to navigate the passing of my mother. I will be forever grateful to the Amedisys Garner team who are truly the best you can ever hope for.

This is one of the saddest reviews I have ever had to write. I know the people here are good. ESP Charles the chaplain. However as my brother digressed he began to exhibit serious allergic type reactions to opioids. He also began to respond adversely to the offered medications having to step away from the use of opioids completely as a treatment option. This is where problems began and unfortunately continue. He is still hurting - fighting with stage for rectal cancer in horrible pain. Non ending pain. He was able to use a newer med a nonOpioid which the doctor would not prescribe again. Their choice. So in essence the doctor would not change or continue non opioid pain measures or alternate ones - and left my brother to date - writhing in pain. We contacted pharmacists to see if the med could be prescribed and how - and we were told it could be and that they had never heard of hospice not meeting the needs of the patient before - nor being told they they had done all they could. They couldn't help him. No referrals or help to get other care was offered. We secured another provider who will do palliative care as the patient needs. If your loved one needs non opioids - due to choices or allergic reactions (such as wooden chest syndrome they were also unaware of ) - you may need to think about choosing a different care provider. If you're sure your patient will be textbook in passing they may be ok. Personnel are fine. It is the Process of care which is questionable at best when non traditional measures are needed. I'm reviewing JC protocols for hospice. Ask the hard questions before they start.

If you are ever in the unfortunate situation to need hospice caregivers, I highly recommend Amedisys. My Dad was treated with such kindness and respect, as were we, as we navigated the hardest time of our lives preparing to lose him. They were available 24/7 and anytime I called for help, they were there immediately. I never once worried or doubted that my father would receive whatever he needed to maintain his comfort and dignity. And a very, very special shout out to his nurse Emily and aide Jordan. They were truly my lifeline and treated my dad with the same love and compassion that I extended to him. My dad adored them both so much, and I will be forever grateful for the incredible care they gave him. They made the worst moments of our life free from fear and worry, and brought a lot of joy to my sweet dad as his body failed him. Even the social worker, Lisa, came to visit and say goodbyes to my dad. I also want to give kudos to Holly in the corporate office, who was very helpful to me when I needed to navigate FMLA paperwork to be home with dad. He was such a special man and he is sorely missed. I am very grateful to Amedisys for giving dad the gift of no pain and suffering as his life came to an end.

I will say that if it wasn't for the help of Kirk. Ms. Brenda and Miss Debbie from Amedisys hospice care. We would have had a very rough time this past 6 months. They became part of our family when they started to care for my mom. We are grateful for the help that they provided us and the care and the concern that they showed all of us. I couldn't have asked for better people to take care of her. They were the most gentle and patient and understanding people I could have possibly asked for, for this situation!! They made it 100% possible for my mom to be able to pass with dignity in exactly the way that she wanted to go and that's the best thing my family could have ever asked for. Thank you Kirk, Brenda, and Debbie for EVERYTHING!!!

Our family is incredibly grateful for the outstanding care we received from Amedisys Hospice in Garner. From the very beginning, the team showed compassion, professionalism, and genuine support during an incredibly difficult time. We want to especially recognize our nurse, Karley. She was gentle, patient, and deeply informative throughout our loved one’s end-of-life journey. Her calming presence and willingness to answer every question—no matter how big or small—brought us so much comfort. Karley supported not only our loved one, but our entire family, helping us understand what to expect and reassuring us every step of the way. Thanks to Amedisys and to Karley’s exceptional care, we felt supported, guided, and treated with dignity during a heartbreaking time. We can’t thank them enough for the compassionate service they provided.
