I want to update my review to include what happened during my father‘s passing. Well, he was in hospice care, I was told that when the end came, he would go to Waterbury Hospital. On the day, he was failing I was unable to reach my contact at Vitas. She later called and said she forgot to bring her phone with her. I had someone else who was incompetent. I called an ambulance and needed the paramedics to figure out how to treat my father. The first night my father was in Waterbury hospital, Vitas kept telling me that they were going to be sending him back to assisted living. Some of the nurses were nice, but I had one nurse who would not acknowledge me when she came in the room and started talking about all the patient she had who died. It was a horrible experience. My dad was at Vitas for three days before he passed, and I never heard from the caregiver who had worked with him for over a year.

I’ve seen that they’ve taken down my review. Let me just tell you one thing the nurses that they have are horrible except for only one. These nurses act like they play God. I’m not even gonna say her name because I am disgusted by her, but she came into my parents house and said that my grandfather had a long life to live and that we weren’t taking good care of him well would you look at that he’s gone.
You guys put my grandfather through hell and I would not recommend this disgusting horrible company if you want to be lectured if you want to be told you’re not doing a good job taking care of your loved one then go to this company.

My Dad, Paul Reardon passed away at Vitas in January (2021). We had to make a decision fast, he had taken a sudden turn for the worse with his cancer, could not go home alone and we had no home care in place. It was covid lockdowns and we wanted to be able to see him. We are so thankful for the doctor that recommended St. Mary’s Vitas Hospice. He was allowed 2 visitors at a time 24 hours a day- even though he was there during covid lockdowns. Nurses were outstanding, Calling to let us know when his condition changed, explaining everything that was happening to us at every turn, but most of all they took care of my Dad with dignity and kindness. One day I was struggling with some of the decisions I had to make so fast, the doctor took me aside and spent extra time explaining things to me- words of wisdom I have since repeated to others struggling with the same decisions. The Chaplain was so nice, so calming and has called me several times since to check in and make sure we are ok. They offer continued support and grieving programs. This facility at St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury Ct. is amazing. Our family is so grateful that found this for my Dad.

My sister was forced from hospice inpatient to home under some strange pretext that she couldn’t stay. We don’t understand why she couldn’t stay there to die. In less than 24 she was transported home and has never be anywhere but bedridden because not possible to move. The 24 care etc at all to home hospice and have had one disaster after another. We have barely been able to communicate with her we can’t care for someone who is unable to move has wound care. Forced to go to second agency for 24 hour care since care giver walked out. The 24 hour care was finally found and due to her wound care etc we had to add a second nurse at night which was so expensive.
