Heartland Hospice

I recently learned about and registered to receive services provided by Heartland Hospice. Since doing so, I have no regrets and am very pleased with the various services that have been offered and provided. Darlene Sellers, Hospice consultant, made me aware of the wide array of services available and guided me through every phase of the enrollment process, which was seamless. Hospice staff who provide services to my family member are supportive, skilled professionals who know what they are doing and demonstrate empathy and compassion for my family member. I am grateful that Heartland Hospice has become a part of my care plan for my family member and look forward to maintaining an ongoing relationship with the organization.

Shawn (Coordinator) came to the hospital my mother was admitted and sold us on Heartland Hospice services. Our experience was horrific and terrifying for my mother and our family and she deserved so much better. The nurse was 1.5 hour late. Which means my mother arrived at the house with no one there to assess her at all or ensure her oxygen tanks or cannulas were properly assembled. She was clearly in distress and we were given no instructions on how to care for her from the hospital, they ensured us “hospice will take over as soon as she got home”. When the RN finally arrived she did not asses my mother at all but was focused on admin work. As a healthcare care worker I always put the needs of my patients first before paperwork! She was thee most inconsiderate non empathetic person we have ever encountered and should not be working in hospice care. I hope her loved ones never experience the kind of non service she gave us. Heart breaking because my mom is the most forgiving human I have ever known and she deserved better than this. After she sped through paperwork and her fake setting up of care she said “I’ve been here almost 2 hours I have to go and rushed out the door. Around 2300 that night my mom was in distress, we didn’t know what to do, we called her 3 times and left messages. Ended up calling 911. The medics came and made her comfortable. This facility does not care about people or patients who need them the most. Do NOT use them for your loved ones. Especially the Beltsville location. Never felt so helpless in my life.

The people at Hospice are very knowledgeable and extremely helpful at a most difficult time. My liaison, Darlene, was exceptionally hard working in getting my family the help we needed. Thank you!

Hospice services have been a blessing and Heartland definitely cares about the people they care for. I’ve had multiple experiences with different care companies with my own family members and this last experience really was an eye opener.
