In my grief, I delayed in getting to the cemetery to arrange the interment of my loved one's ashes nearly 2 months for an early Spring interment. I wanted the memorial plaque to exactly match the other members of my family interred at Woodlawn, and be present at the interment ceremony.
I finally worked past my grief to visit the cemetery in late January to make arrangements for the interment scheduled in late March. I worked with Martha Allen at the Woodlawn cemetery office. She researched and found on original file(s) for my parents from 30 & 40 years ago and Martha was able to locate the same memorial plaque company and, although the company did not show the same border on their website, Martha called and was able to order the same exact border, etc., so all the plaques would match (as I wanted). She worked with me to produce the EXACT memorial plaque that I sought, and made minor modifications and provided proofs to ensure that it was produced EXACTLY as I desired.
It was important to me that the plaque be delivered and present for the interment ceremony in March. But upon contacting the manufacturer, they advised that there was a 8-10 week lead time, and they were backed-up and could not accomodate any 'rush' orders. She put the order in and the projected delivery date was the literally the day before the scheduled interment. On top of my grief, this added apprehension about delivery frayed my nerves.
Not even a month later (mid-February), Martha reached-out to inform me that the plaque had been delivered to the cemetery and forwarded me photos for my approval. It was PERFECT. And a HUGE load off my mind that it was in-hand in only 3-weeks...over a month before the interment date. I don't know how she did it, but Martha came through (again).
I guess we just don't put much thought into these final arrangements prior to the need, nor consider the required lead-times, etc., much less how overwhelming it all becomes when your juggling so many funeral and estate matters, compiled with the associated grief. It's great to know that there are still caring customer-service oriented professionals that will rise to the occassion and go that extra mile(s) to make everything perfect. I am thoroughly impressed and thankful for the care and considerations that Martha and Woodlawn's staff afforded me and our family during this difficult and trying time.
