Horrible communication! My mother is a smoker and on oxygen. They just show up one day and say a nurse said she was smoking with the oxygen (hearsay) and take all of her oxygen. Literally leaving her on the floor crying because she can't breathe. My mom even asked for help and there response was we can call 911. Horrible company! No compassion.

My Dad received amazing and compassionate care from VITAS Healthcare for approx 6 months before passing. We felt blessed to have RN Ana and Caregiver Reslaine. They were so caring, professional, and went above and beyond consistently. VITAS was there for us every step of the way no matter what day/time we called, answered every concern, and handled every need. 100% recommend VITAS Healthcare.

I waited 2 months to write this because I wanted to make sure my emotions weren’t driving this negative review. That said, I’m horrified by the treatment that Vitas gave my father. Especially in the last week of his life. In short, they were no help and there were days, after they changed his status to eminent, that the nurses didn’t even bother to show up nor did they communicate with us that they wouldn’t be coming. We couldn’t get staff on the phone, we had issues with getting medications, and aside from one nurse, the nursing staff that did show up was an embarrassment to the profession.
After my father passed, the nurse that came to verify his death, was a nurse named Brooke. She walked in the room, did not acknowledge any one of the family, put her hand on his foot and said “oh he’s cold“. She didn’t offer any condolences; her actions were despicable and utterly disrespectful to my father and to our family. Is this what Vitas does? Is this how they assess and verify the passing of a person? I’m a nurse, and I know for a fact that nurse should have taken his vitals, listened to his heart and pronounced his death. Her callousness was evident and her complete lack of respect was shocking in its depth. I met a few people from this company, and there was only one nurse that knew what she was doing, was knowledgeable and showed the respect that my father deserved. Interestingly she was a nurse from Stuart that had to be called in because there was no staff in PSL.
I know that Vitas has a monopoly in the treasure coast. So people don’t have much of a choice, but to choose them, which is sad. This PSL location site needs a complete staffing overhaul. Shame on every one of these people that made the last week of my father’s life more difficult than it had to be.

I was very pleased with the palliative and hospice care my dad received in his last few months. I had excellent communication from the visiting nurses, clergy and social workers. My dad liked everyone who came to take care of him, especially Chaplain Jim. During his last few days, the hospice team made sure my dad was comfortable and not in pain and for that I will be forever grateful.
