It was an awful experience for both me & my boyfriend. The staff never acknowledged us & never helped us with what they actually were supposed to, housing for example. The counselor I was assigned to didn't do her job at all. She just sat in her office on the phone & talked to the other employees all the time. They had me in the smallest room with another roommate where we could barely fit inside the room together especially with all our stuff. I was then transferred to my own room which was worse because the room faced the hot sun. It was absolutely humid in there. They had air conditioning in the staff office & all the lounge rooms on every floor, but not in any of the clients rooms. We only had cable in the lounge rooms but not in our rooms & they wouldn't give us the Wifi passcode to use the Wifi. They took all my $ and left me with only $97 to survive off of. They took all my food stamps too. A lot of us had no choice but to eat the crappy meals that the chef cooked. They would always serve water to drink. People would steal our clothes all the time from the laundry room. They provided us with watered down detergent. They also gave us the worst set of blankets & pillows that were obviously used & the bed they provided us with gave me such a bad backache in the morning. It took me a year to finally get out of there & that's because I found something on my own. They were never going to help me get out of there, that's why they were going to make it permanent housing. You have to be in by 12am every night & if you don't make it in by then your stuck outside the rest of the night till like 5am. We couldn't bring any food to our rooms. Staff never provided us with food or snacks, so if we missed the meals then we'd be starving. There's a lot more I could say about this place but it would be about 5 more pages if I did. I wouldn't wish this place even on my worst enemy.

I have known several of my friends that have used the resources that house of charity has to offer and they are a great part of the community. They really care about their clients and they go above and beyond to be there for people that have no support and nowhere to turn for help. They offer many services and keep people housed at the same time. They are extremely caring i have referred multiple people to go there or call there. House of charity is well known by the homeless community in Minneapolis and for good reason. They truly help people and the people they employ deeply care about each and every person tat steps through their doors. Upon a arriving or calling you will be met with open arms and open hearts from their staff. They do make sure that it is drug free to protect those in recovery which is really great. But it's is just a really good place for people to get a second chance at life.

House of Charity is an awesome organization helping to lift people up with housing, food, and counseling. Join them for lunch or help serve, you won't regret it. Deb Moses took the reins this year as director. Great work team!

House of charity is a place where you can change your life around and start a new life.. you step in and you are on your own. If you want to change.. I thank God for all my blessings and the house of charity for giving me the opportunity for change. I've been in my new place now 2 1/2 yrs. Paying my own rent and getting blessed. Like my mom said " God bless the child that has it's own" I stand by that...

I used to live here. It is an exceptional opportunity for people needing a little headstart on getting their lives back on track. Unfortunately many of the residents take advantage of the generosity of this place, and continue a life of crime with absolutely no ambition to change, which unfortunately happens all too frequently here. Everyone is treated in a way that gives them many chances, but it is such a shame to see a remarkably high percentage of tenants doing literally nothing but live rent free on the state and county dime. I wish there were mandatory progress goals to meet in order to encourage people to be a value to society, rather than acting completely entitled to not pay for anything, and still complain about how nothing is good enough. They did me right, so I did them right. 😃
