My family and I would like to express our sincere appreciation to the Heartland Hospice team for the compassion and care that was provided to our grandmother over the past year especially Risper and Natalie, her amazing nurses that were like family to us.

One of the WORST hospice companies I’ve ever been with. Poor management, nurses and aides are very unprofessional. They don’t care about the actual patient, each patient is like a number or dollar sign to them. I would never recommend anyone in my family or friend circle to come on to this hospice.

There are no words to express how loving and compassionate this team was. The love and support went way beyond my expectations. My husband's care was more than I could have done myself. My sincere thanks to the team, Erica, Natalie, Risper and Tonie. Anything I needed in the care of my husband was supplied immediately. Our family will be forever grateful. Sincerely, Sylvia Anderson.

The staff of Heartland Hospice was absolutely amazing! Risper Joshua was our regular nurse and she made sure that my mom was taken care of until the very end. She took the time to properly brief us on the dying process and what each step looks like. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience.

Heartland hospice is a terrible company. Their poor choice in nursing and staff has given my father and I a long lasting distaste for people in the medical industry in it for the money. I would absolutely recommend Enhabit Home Health & Hospice. Heartland took about 3 days for the initial visit to be scheduled The day of, the nurse was walking her dog as I could hear her dog fighting with another dog in the background while she is telling me she would have to move our meeting to a later time in the day. Not to get too specific about my dad needs but he was recovering from two surgeries dealing with colon cancer, a wound on his back and fatigue. His assisted living facility did the best they could but we were all waiting for the Heartland nurses to start his care. When she did arrive, she took all of 10 minutes to tell us that my dad did not qualify for their services because at some point in the future he would be receiving treatment for his cancer. My dad is a veteran and was receiving the NORMAL services allotted to vets that have care within and outside the VA via Medicare. But she felt it was her job not to care for the patient she was assigned but tell us how she believed billing works. 4 days earlier I had spoken with the administrative department and they explain to me how this would all go and there would not be any issues prior to this "nurse" showing up and derailing everything AND WAS WRONG! This was over the 4th of July holiday and she left stating she would contact someone in her office to make sure that her words were correct. I relayed this information to the admin whom I had been speaking with and the admin stated that she should have just in-processed him. My dad has two bags he has to use to evacuate waste and neither could be changed because the nurse decided it was in her company’s interest to PASS. My dad’s assisted living company's admin are also nurses and were able to find equipment needed replace or empty the bags my dad uses. I am forever grateful to the stuff for jumping in and helping. This would not be the last time they would have to do this because Heartland is just that terrible. More frequently than I knew they would have to care for my dad because Heartland would not. And what I found out as we were nearing an end with this company was that they were not changing the bag out correctly and for urine, at all. They had only assigned my dad 2 days a week. When the facility he lives in tried to call Heartland for an on call nurse I was told none would show. I don't believe they ever sent anyone. And since the following day was a visiting they address the issue then. But I did have one nurse try to put me in the middle of a back and forth they were having with the facility. It sounded like she actually was trying to do some good for my dad until it was noted that this company either is short staffed or is just not trying to have my dad be seen as frequently as he should be. When the assisted living facility admin called and told me that they were being told flat out 'NO', I felt enough was enough. Again, this was in a 3 almost 4 WEEK time frame. I called Enhabit schedule the intake session. Heartland called me about the change, I spoke with Melissa Reich who was trying to convince me to stay with their company, I explain all the trouble my dad had been having and that this was the end. On the day I was to sign papers with the new company the old company came and removed my dad's bed while he was at lunch. He came in to HIS ROOM to find someone dissembling his bed. This 86 yr old man, VET, who is recovering from colon cancer, now having to use two different bags to evacuate his digestive system, fresh stage 3 not in healing open wound, which Heartland never got to healing stage, has now had is bed repossessed by the company that has effectively made his life more miserable. Melissa Reich informed me that was her doing. This was our experience I hope it will not be yours. DO BETTER HEARTLAND!!
