I’ve heard when searching for a therapist it is important to find a good match. After several attempts with other therapists over a two year search I was so relieved to find Dr. Mary. The difference is that she truly cares about me, my life, and my circumstances. I feel heard, as she listens intently. I feel seen and understood and validated for the first time. Dr. Mary is amazing to work with; she is the help I was looking for. Thank you Dr. Mary.

I came to see Dr. Mary MacLeod to help me deal with estrangement from my adult daughter. I did not realize the concept of partial estrangement (low contact) vs. no contact estrangement. I just saw my daughter not wanting much of a relationship with me. The first joint session with my daughter it was recommended that we both read "The adult child of the immature parent." This title of the book put me in a defensive position along with my daughter giving me an ultimatum "if you want a relationship with me then you need to see a therapist." But, I put my pride aside because my daughter was more important and I wanted to fix the relationship. During the first session my daughter was thrilled that someone saw our relationship from her perspective so I felt like we were working with the right person. After several months of therapy I had learned a few things about my daughter that were helpful but my defensive response persisted. This is something that made our therapy sessions counterproductive and eventually my daughter was done trying to fix the relationship. She wanted "No Contact" with me and Dr. MacLeod told me I needed to respect her decision which I have done. Once my daughter requested "No Contact" I finally had something to look up and learn more about. I realized that the approach from Dr. MacLeod was never going to work because it did not address the issues without putting one of us on the defensive. I have learned about another therapist called Dr. Coleman who seems to have better success with helping parents understand what they did to cause the rift and see the situation from your child's perspective without putting the parent on the defensive. Dr. Mary MacLeod is a nice person and can help some people but she didn't take a helpful approach for my situation. Her lack of recognition about adult child estrangement and educating parents about this growing phenomenon needs work. I am looking for someone who is more knowledgeable about this topic and can help me deal with the core problems about how to see the situation from your child's perspective without putting you on the defensive. I stayed because I thought it worked for my daughter but after leaving I learned she didn't care for Dr. MacLeod.

I have loved working with Dr. MacLeod! I started seeing her back in 2019 as a couple's counselor she helped me through my divorce. She did not push we one way or the other in this matter but helped me see life and the choices I had. One of the best thinks I admire about Dr. MacLeod is her willingness to be honest and tell you what she really thinks. She does not beet around the bush. She pushed me when I needed it and other times just listened when I needed that. Always as she listened, she knew what things to focus on and talk more deeply about. I have never been so happy with myself and have confidence that I can handle what is thrown at me. If life changes drastically again, I now know I can also get help and that is ok.

I have been in therapy several times throughout my life (I'm in my 60's now) and Dr. Mary MacLeod has helped me through difficult situations with thoughtful, insightful and compassionate care. She truly understands and provides guidance to help me become a more confident person. She is the best therapist I've ever had!
